The Pepper Cannon Review that Amazon Wouldn't Post

A guy named John bought a Pepper Cannon and wrote what might be the most enthusiastic review of a kitchen tool ever written.

Amazon wouldn't publish it.

We still don't know exactly why. Maybe a $200 pepper mill inspiring that much joy tripped some filter.

So...

A hand grinding fresh pepper from the Pepper Cannon onto a dark surface.
The Pepper Cannon standing upright on a white background.

He posted it himself — titled "The Pepper Cannon Review that Amazon Banned" — and it's been passed around ever since.

He calls it "a pepper mill without peer."

I didn't pay him for it. You can't manufacture that.

Here's the thing about a review like that: it only happens when a product actually does what it promises.

And I made the Pepper Cannon some big promises to live up to.

A bearded man in a black apron grinding pepper with the Pepper Cannon.

I built it because traditional pepper mills suck.

Cranking 73 times for a teaspoon of pepper is nonsense. Pre-ground tastes like sawdust.

So I spent two years fixing every frustration I had — slow output, inconsistent grinds, a laughably narrow grind range, messy counters, a pain to refill, and build quality that dies in a year.

Then I put it on Kickstarter at $200. Four times the price of other "premium" mills.

I genuinely wondered if anyone else was as annoyed as I was, or if my expensive solution would land with a thud.

Turns out I wasn't the only one.

A hand gripping the black Pepper Cannon against a dark background.

What it actually does is simple: it seasons a steak in about 7 cranks instead of 70.

A double ball-bearing drive shaft powers high-carbon stainless steel burrs, housed in a body milled from a single block of aerospace-grade aluminum.

It grinds a consistent 8-to-60+ mesh — coarse cracks for a roast, powder-fine for a sauce, everything between.

No dust-and-whole-peppercorn lottery. No wrist workout.

John's wasn't the only rave. Forbes, Serious Eats, Food & Wine, Wall Street Journal, Bon Appétit, Esquire.

Backers left comments like "everyone who loves pepper needs this."

None Better

Do you know the satisfaction of turning the bezel on a high-end dive watch? Using the Pepper Cannon feels like that. From the unboxing, then handling its heft, the easy filling, then the first crank, every aspect of the Pepper Cannon is a luxurious, keenly engineered marvel.

Better Than Expected.

Such high quality parts. It is as if this were a part for a German high performance automobile. Smooth operation and easy to use. Clever color options for the top to code what you might have inside the grinder.

Pepper Cannon

I enjoy using my Pepper Cannon so much I decided it would be a great wedding gift for my niece and her partner. They both love to cook and have been living together for several years so I expect they already have most everything they need for their kitchen. They might not know they need the most perfect PepperGrinder ! Just holding it in your hand you know that it is very special and of the highest quality. In also got them some special pepper corns. The smoked ones are my favorite

The only little problem I have with the Pepper Cannon is that it grinds out pepper a life too quickly. You don't get to experience the satisfying crunch but for only a couple of rotation and you have all you need: LOVE

Well Earned Name!

I love pepper and I was so tired of twisting store bought caps until I got bored or flat out impatient. I never got the pepper I really wanted until I splurged on this sleek gadget. Loving it

The Pepper Cannon between a shaker of pre-ground pepper and a wooden mill, with a mound of fresh pepper.

The best part: it's built to be the last pepper mill you ever buy.

That's not a slogan — it's why it carries a 5-year warranty, and why people keep calling it heirloom quality.

One warning: the imitations are everywhere now. Plastic "Pepper Cannons" on eBay, clones on Amazon.

A real one has a model number stamped on the bottom — MK32144. That's my dad's birthday.

He's the original pepper lover in my family, and every real Cannon carries his date.

So you can keep cranking your old mill until your arm gives out.

Or you can find out why one guy wrote a review so over-the-top that Amazon didn't believe it.

The Pepper Cannon Review that Amazon Banned

Amazon doesn't want me posting this (for reasons?), so here it is for your enjoyment.

A peerless pepper mill, a pillar of any respectable kitchen

Few products on the market today feel like they are worth the expense, let alone made well enough to last a generation. So many end up used for a season and then tossed, and these little inconveniences ultimately add up to drain the joy of cooking. And you cook a lot, right? After all, you're reading this review for a black pillar of pepper precipitation. (If you're using pre-ground like a philistine, then please pay attention.)

How many times do you use pepper in your cooking? And how many times have you actually tasted the personality of the pepper you just plated?

Any chef will tell you that fresh ground pepper is a prerequisite, but have you ever liked a pepper mill? Have you ever felt empowered when preparing your plates? Have you ever savored the physics of that particular grinder?

Enter the Pepper Cannon. Believe the hype. This thing works as advertised, offering granular adjustments from an ultrafine shower to a barely cracked deluge. It offers more range in coarseness than any of its peers. More importantly, it is FUN to use. Machined out of real metal, it is both a joy to hold and to grind. It'll blast pepper faster than any mill prior and leave you with a viscerally satisfying sense of force amplification as even gentle twists of the Cannon yield torrential results.

The Pepper Cannon is a pepper mill without peer, setting the bar for a new generation of kitchens. My only regret is that so few kitchen implements live up to the Cannon's standards. Pepper Cannon, you've embarrassed the competition.

Since Jeff wouldn't let me post this, I recommend instead buying directly from MÄNNKITCHEN (mannkitchen.com).

FAQ

Isn't $199 Expensive for a Pepper Mill?

Yes, it is. And a Ferrari is expensive compared to a Volkswagen.

The Pepper Cannon was engineered and built for performance, and it performs exceptionally well. We could have made it less expensively, but it would not be the same quality.

The Pepper Cannon will never be as inexpensive as ordinary mills because there's nothing ordinary about it.

Why Build the Pepper Cannon?

We got tired of using stale, pre-ground pepper. Existing mills grind too slowly. We also got tired of cranking regular pepper mills too many times for insignificant amounts of inconsistently ground pepper.

You are tired of those things too.

When top chefs using premium mills must crank over 60 times for a simple dish, it shows there's room for improvement.

When we started working on the speed problem, we realized that we could also fix other issues. Problems like filling, calibrating, and grind quality/range were all solvable.

We've been grinding pepper one way for so long that we are used to it. But now we have a better option.

Is The Pepper Cannon REALLY Better? What Difference Does It Really Make?

For professional cooks it means better food made faster.

For pepper lovers it means finally getting the amount of pepper you want.

It is the difference between using fresh ground and musty pre-ground pepper.

It is using 15 cranks to pepper a side of brisket instead of 150.

It is the ability to get super fine and super coarse pepper from one device, in seconds.

It is the only pepper mill that will prompt you to say "Whoa" when you use it.

Why Call It the Pepper Cannon?

Two reasons.

Reason 1: We compared our prototypes to top-rated pepper mills. It quickly became clear there was no comparison. The Pepper Cannon is a different animal, so it gets a different name.

Reason 2: It is difficult to be upset when a product called the "Pepper Cannon" puts out a lot of pepper. With a name like Pepper Cannon, you know exactly what to expect.

But Will There Be Too Much Pepper?

No. There will be the exact amount of pepper you want, ground more consistently, in a fraction of the time.

If you want to decrease the output, either crank it less or adjust the pepper cannon to a finer setting.

* Unless you dial the pepper cannon wide open. Then there may be too much pepper. Use your new pepper power wisely

Can I Grind Salt in My Pepper Cannon?

No, salt will corrode the stainless steel internals eventually.

Instead, use a Salt Cannon.
